Olam achieves 100% traceability over its direct cocoa supply chain
Olam Group, an ICI partner and board member, has achieved 100% traceability across its direct cocoa supply chain. Olam sources its cocoa from nine countries, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana among them. This level of traceability is an important step towards supporting farmers and eliminating child labour from the company’s supply chain.
The announcement coincides with the launch of Olam’s Cocoa Compass update which lays out the company’s achievements to date and its goals for the future. By 2030, for instance, Olam aims to have eliminated child labour from its supply chain and have ensured that all cocoa farmers’ children in their supply chain can access quality education.
Key results from their efforts fighting child labour are also included:
- 3,034 birth certificates provided to children to enable them to attend school
- 176 classrooms, 6 teachers’ accommodations and five canteens constructed
- 687 Village Savings and Loans Associations established in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana
- 25,600 school kits distributed
Since partnering in 2013, Olam and ICI have collaborated to increase child protection in the cocoa supply chain through Olam’s support of ICI’s Community Development Programme and through Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems.
