Nana Tigyimah, cocoa farmer and Sub Chief of his community, describes the benefits of child protection awareness raising.
“Prior to participation in awareness-raising events on child labour and the importance of education organized ICI, it was normal for primary school children to work with their fathers on farms. Although it affected their performance in school, it was considered as tradition. Currently, the children are free from hard work and many dangers. Today as I speak, some are in JHS and so on.”
Child labour in Ghana is a multifaceted problem that needs to be addressed using a multi-sectorial approach.
