International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) is a multi-stakeholder organisation, uniting the forces of civil society, certifiers, the cocoa and chocolate industry and international institutions, and working with governments to address child and forced labour in the cocoa sector.

As part of the ICI’s objectives to eliminate the worst forms of child labour and forced labour in the cocoa sector and its overall programme to promote children’s rights and child protection in the cocoa supply chain, ICI seeks Training and Child Safeguarding Project Manager in the implementation of ICI Child Safeguarding policy and Training of ICI partners in pursuit of the ICI objectives for the country Office in Ghana.

Under the supervision of the ICI Deputy Country Director/Programme Coordinator the Training and Child Safeguarding Project Manager will be responsible for:

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Child Safeguarding

  • Ensure close collaboration with the Regional Child Safeguarding Specialist and seek guidance to harmonise ICI Child Safeguarding policy implementation (training modules, tools, case management, reporting mechanism, risk assessment...)
  • Ensure that ICI child safeguarding measures are integrated throughout the ICI Ghana national office and within a specific operational scope (e.g. per geography, per activity, per project) and acts as a focal point for information, guidance and action
  • Develop child safeguarding awareness raising tools (image box including poster, flyers, leaflet, etc)
  • Ensures that ICI partners, associates, visitors, suppliers and contractors are informed about the ICI Child safeguarding Policy by offering them awareness raising and briefings
  • Assists ICI staff and partners in the implementation of the child Safeguarding Policy, including risk assessment and referral to the Regional Child Protection Specialist for guidance
  • Responsible for reporting and documenting all child safeguarding violations at the country level and report same to the Line Manager and Regional Child Protection Specialist
  • Ensures that the ICI Child Safeguarding Policy and our commitment to respect and protect the rights of the child are known to the children themselves, to the families and communities working with ICI, and that the policy is accessible
  • Ensure that the name and contact details of Child Safeguarding call point is accessible at ICI operational communities so that everyone can know who to contact if they suspect something and how to report it
  • Maintains an accurate incident log of all incidents at the country level
  •  Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the Child Safeguarding Policy and its procedures by providing an annual report to country level management and the Regional Child Protection Specialist

Training / awareness-raising

  • Develop training module for capacity building for staff on key principles of child safeguarding, reporting and case management mechanism and profiles of incident
  • Conduct periodic training for ICI staff on ICI Safeguarding Policy and their obligations to protect and safeguard children in their professional and personal endeavors
  • Develop child safeguarding awareness raising tools (image box including poster, flyers, leaflet, etc)
  • Develop terms of reference and support child labour and child protection trainings for supply chain/industry staff and national/district level actors
  • Develop terms of reference and support forced labour training for supply chain/industry staff and national/district level actors
  • Review existing child and forced labour training and awareness raising materials and improve their content
  • Lead in the preparation and application of appropriate training manuals and brochures
  • Liaise with communication department to develop videos and series on child and forced labour
  • Liaise with M&E department and prepare pre and post test training knowledge assessment tools for different categories of training participants (e.g., community facilitators, company staff)
  • Conduct training impact assessments of participants participating in ICI training, analyse the result for improve training content for future trainings
  • Liaise with HR and project managers to design and implement appropriate e-learning activities

Project Management

  • Conduct partners (Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation) system assessment, make recommendation and design capacity building needs of the partners
  • Ensure sound technical and financial management of partner CLMRS project
  • Provide field-based technical support to partners to implement their CLMRS project, including providing guidance to partners team to collect and submit relevant and timely data on CLMRS
  • Ensure project processes and outcomes are properly documented to identify potential good practices
  • Ensure a field-based collaboration with relevant partners (including cooperatives, local authorities, civil society representatives and others NGOs);
  • Provide support to the programme team in the development of new partnerships and collaboration mechanisms at national and local levels
  • Represent ICI at programme and project functions and meetings as agreed with the Deputy Country Director/Program Coordinator
  • Ensure a field-based collaboration with partners field team

Mission support and other duties

  • Support the organization of ICI missions and visits to project areas
  • Perform any other duties as required by Deputy Country Director/Program Coordinator and agreed by the Country Director

Qualifications and Experience acquired:

  • University degree in Development Planning/Studies, Social Sciences or other relevant discipline, with at least 3 years’ experience in conducting training and developing training materials
  • Programme development, report preparation and knowledge documentation
  • Experience of medium and high-level training
  • Experience in working at community level
  • Workshop organizational and facilitation skills
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with partners
  • Ability to work under pressure, well organized and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across cultures, including with team members and those base in other countries
  • Knowledge and experience in child safeguarding and protection
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to collaborate with others to ensure the implementation of Child Safeguarding Policy, and acts when a child safeguarding incident occurs
  • Irreproachable behaviour and commitment to the protection of children and respect for the rights of the child
  • Ability to advocate for child safeguarding and defends its usefulness

Languages

Fluency in written and spoken English, Ability to speak Twi desirable

Travel Requirements

The position is based in in the ICI’s Accra office with regular travels to project operational communities and other countries where necessary.

Duration

The position is one-year contract, renewable based on the availability of continued funding.
