We work to achieve strong national and international policies and standards to ensure a supportive enabling environment for the cocoa sector, where impact at scale is prioritised.
We work to achieve strong national and international policies and standards to ensure a supportive enabling environment for the cocoa sector, where impact at scale is prioritised.
To inform strong policies and standards that enable sector-wide change at scale, we share knowledge and best practices of tackling child labour and addressing forced labour risks in the cocoa sector. Closely tied to our Innovation and Learning functions, our aim is to share what works to help stakeholders adopt effective and evidence-based policies and standards.
We offer our technical support to policymakers and stakeholders in the cocoa sector and use our expertise to advise on and advocate for appropriate legislation and sustainability standards at the national, regional and international level. We work with international organisations, regional bodies (such as the European Union), and national governments in cocoa-consuming and cocoa-producing countries, among others. Our objective is to strengthen action to tackle child labour and forced labour and create an environment where the scale up of effective approaches is encouraged.
To achieve broader, sector-wide change, individual and company-specific projects must be scaled up and evolved into systems that are fully integrated and coordinated with community and national systems and policies. Both company and national approaches must be underpinned by strong mutual accountability, reinforced by civil society.
As a multi-stakeholder organisation, ICI is uniquely placed to bring different actors in the cocoa sector together to align on goals, approaches and objectives, facilitating the definition of roles and responsibilities between state, industry and other actors in key intervention areas, and thereby reinforcing the coordination, coherence, efficiency and accountability of the collaborations underway.
Our work on policies, practises and standards forms an integral part of our 2021-2026 strategy to drive the scale up of action to tackle child labour and forced labour in the cocoa supply chain. For more information, please see Technical Advocacy and ICI’s Strategic Objectives and Core Functions in our strategy.
We support our members, partners and the wider cocoa sector to adopt practices and systems that have a real impact on the ground for children, families and workers.....
