Twelve of the world's biggest chocolate and cocoa companies launched CocoaAction, a plan to rejuvenate the cocoa sector and accelerate its sustainability. The launch was accompanied by the signing of two consecutive agreements with the governments of Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana to ensure that 300,000 cocoa farmers (200,000 in Côte d’Ivoire and 100,000 in Ghana), and their communities, benefit from productivity enhancements and community development support over the next 6 years.

The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) welcomes the unprecedented commitment by the cocoa industry to coordinate itself, aligning individual companies’ sustainability actions and investments for maximum impact. An active adviser to CocoaAction, ICI applauds the strong focus on child labour monitoring, remediation and other social dimensions, and recognizes the invaluable potential for this initiative to advance the principle of collective action and shared responsibility between industry, civil society and origin governments.
