Join Louis Cole, a famous Youtube presenter, for a visit in Yaokouakoukro, a cocoa-growing community in Côte d’Ivoire. The following video, launched today by Nestlé, takes you right into the heart of what we do and shows you ICI’s work within the Nestlé Cocoa Plan.

The Nestlé Cocoa Plan, a programme for rural development and responsible sourcing, is built on three pillars: enabling farmers to run profitable farms; improving social conditions; and sourcing good quality, sustainable cocoa for chocolate products. The objective for the programme is to source 175 000 tonnes of cocoa sustainably by 2018.

Jointly with Nestlé, ICI has set up a child labour monitoring and remediation system (CLMRS) in Côte d’Ivoire, which currently operates in 40 cooperatives as part of Nestlé’s Cocoa Plan. The system targets 24’470 farmers and already identified  5’135 child laborers, out of which 3’591 have been followed up and 3’183 assisted. The move marks the continued commitment by cocoa companies to step up efforts to improve livelihoods and reduce child labour in their supply chains.

As ICI’s CLMRS coordinator in Côte d’Ivoire, Yolande Kodjo, says: “The behaviour has changed since we started using the system in the selected communities.”
