Barry Callebaut, a partner and board member of the International Cocoa Initiative, has released its Forever Chocolate report. It provides a comprehensive and transparent look at the company’s progress towards its commitment of a sustainable cocoa supply chain free from child labour by 2025. Key to achieving Barry Callebaut’s objective is the continued roll-out of Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems (CLMRS) across its supply chain in West Africa, a process that ICI continues to support.
Results and findings noted in the report:
- Barry Callebaut’s CLMRS now covers 113 farmer groups, including 39,909 farmers in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Cameroon.
- 94,946 farmers received awareness raising on child labour.
- 22,965 cases of child labour were identified by the CLMRS and remediation is under way. Of those children identified as in child labour previously 4,971 children have received remediation.
- Based on a methodology that considers a child out of child labour if the child has not been found performing child labour over two consecutive monitoring visits, 335 cases were effectively remediated in the 2019/20 period.
