Barry Callebaut, a member of the International Cocoa Initiative, has published its 2020/21 Forever Chocolate Report, detailing progress made tackling child labour and improving farmers livelihoods. The report explores the activities undertaken through the company’s child-centred approach and the Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS).
Key results
- 21,258 cases of child labour identified in 2020/21.
- 25,486 children identified as in child labour in previous years are receiving remediation.
- Barry Callebaut’s CLMRS covers 237 farmer groups. These include 220,878 farmers in Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana and Cameroon.
- Barry Callebaut’s CLMRS now overs 61% of the farmer groups it supplies from.
- 29,300 farmers were trained on child labour awareness
Transparent and detailed reporting of this kind is essential to tackling the issue of child labour. At ICI, we are pleased to see Barry Callebaut continue to make progress in addressing child labour and expanding the coverage of its monitoring and remediation systems across its full cocoa supply chain.
