Cargill, an ICI board member, has recently launched its 2018-19 Cocoa and Chocolate Sustainability Progress Report. The report outlines Cargill’s actions over the past year to support farmers and their families in its cocoa supply chain, including through Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems (CLMRS), implemented in partnership with ICI. The CLMRS works through farming cooperatives to support farming communities identify, monitor, prevent and remediate child labour cases.
In 2018-19, Cargill supported 210,00 farmers through one-on-one coaching and/or training on Good Agricultural Practices. While over the course of the year, 58,800 farms were monitored through the CLMRS, including in Cameroon where ICI and Cargill recently began working on a pilot late last year. ICI and Cargill will continue to work to scale up the CLMRS across the company’s supply chain to reach more farmers and ensure children in cocoa-growing communities remain safe from child labour.
