The Hershey Company, a member of the International Cocoa Initiative, has released an update on its Cocoa For Good sustainability programme. The update presents the company’s progress rolling out Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems (CLMRS) through its suppliers in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana.
Key points from the update:
- Working through its suppliers, Hershey has achieved 97% coverage of farmer groups with CLMRS in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana. This equates to approximately 56,000 farmers.
- Hershey is a member of ICI’s Forced Labour Sub-Group which consists of other cocoa industry members, civil society, and independent experts to increase knowledge, monitor and address the risk of forced labour.
- Hershey also released a Living Wage position statement, outlining their efforts to promote a living income for cocoa farmers.
At ICI, we are encouraged to see The Hershey Company continue to take strides towards full coverage of its cocoa supply chain through effective monitoring and remediation systems, such as the CLMRS. We look forward to continuing to work with Hershey’s in the coming years.
