Nestlé, a partner and board member of the International Cocoa Initiative, has launched its 2020 Creating Shared Value (CSV) and Sustainability report, charting the company’s action and progress tackling sustainability issues in their supply chain. The report includes discussion of Nestlé’s achievements so far when assessing and addressing child labour in its cocoa supply chain in West Africa.
Key results noted by Nestlé’s CSV and Sustainability report include the roll out and impact of Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems (CLMRS), which the company has implemented in its cocoa supply chain with ICI since 2012. The report highlights that 127,550 children have benefited from remediation actions, such as bridging classes, distribution of school kits, school renovations and other forms of support at the household or community level, since the beginning of the CLMRS. Nestlé’s CLMRS is currently monitoring 86,000 children in their supply chain in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, as the report states.
The report underlines Nestlé’s ambition to scale up CLMRS to cover all of the company’s sources of cocoa in West Africa by 2025, in line with its plans to source all of its cocoa through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan.
