2018 Annual Report
In 2018, the International Cocoa Initiative worked to support communities, reinforce supply chains, engage with national authorities and advocate internationally for cocoa that is sustainable and free of child labour. By the end of 2018, ICI’s direct action had benefited 287,762 children, and the organisation is on course to realise its target of directly assisting 375,000 children, as part of its broader goal of improving child protection for 1 million children in cocoa growing areas by 2020. 2019 Annual Report
In 2019, the International Cocoa Initiative worked with its partners to tackle child labour in cocoa communities by implementing responsible supply chain monitoring and community development work to support farming families. ICI’s 2019 Annual Report presents impact stories related to Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation Systems as well as the results from two community development projects: ICI’s Community Development Programme and the Eliminating Child Labour in Cocoa project. Combined, these two sources of impact have led to ICI directly impacting over 380,000 children since 2015

A multi-stakeholder organisation, ICI brings together different actors in the cocoa sector to prevent and address child and forced labour.

ICI is an independent, non-profit organisation that works to support responsible business practices of cocoa and chocolate companies and ensure a better future for cocoa-growing communities.

We work to achieve strong national and international policies and standards to ensure a supportive enabling environment for the cocoa sector, where impact at scale is prioritised.

We conduct research, and we develop, test, evaluate, and share new innovations to advance the scale up of action against child and forced labour in the cocoa supply chain. 

Child labour and forced labour are complex issues. We know that to protect children and workers, these issues must first be understood, and solutions must be grounded in evidence.
